Wild Goose Chase Gravel Grinder Race

In 2017, Dark Early Racing launched the free 55-mile Wild Goose Chase Gravel Grinder race, as part of the annual Sumner Wild Goose Festival activities.  Designed as an annual event the last Saturday in October, the open-course race begins just before sunset at Maxie, the World’s Largest Goose, located at the Community Park in Sumner, Missouri.

Participants ride along the dam of Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge as the sun rises. The group then takes Hog Ridge Ave south for the flat but grueling ride to beautiful downtown Brunswick to see the World’s Largest 20th Century Pecan.  At this halfway point, riders fill up water bottles and refuel with refreshments supplied by the Grand River Biking Club.

The elevation then picks up for a roller-coaster ride through the green hills of Missouri that bring riders around to Silver Lake within Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge and back to Maxie the Goose.

Riders are expected to obey all traffic laws and rules of the road and to ensure their own safety. Dark Early Racing provides emergency contacts and sweeps the course mid-afternoon to ensure all riders have arrived at the finish safely.

The mission of Dark Early Racing is to empower individuals to discover their greatness through camaraderie and competition.  For more information about the Wild Goose Chase Gravel Grinder Race and other races, message Dark Early Racing’s Facebook page.
